The Pencil Wrasse is also known as the Small Tail Wrasse and they are one of the most stunning wrasses in the family.
Males will be green with a blue tint and two horizontal lines with the top one being blue and the bottom stripe yellow. The female or primary pencil wrasse is pink/orange with yellow fins.
They should be kept in a 70 gallon tank or larger with only one male in a tank at a time. They can be semi aggressive and shouldn’t be in a tank with peaceful fish. They are hard to feed and maintain and should only be bought by expert aquarist. The Pencil Wrasse likes to sleep and hide in the sand so a thick sand bed and plenty of rock will be needed to keep these fish happy. Feedings of brine shrimp, Mysis shrimp and other meaty food should be done 2-3 times a day.
