The Long Tentacle Anemone is also known as the Corkscrew Anemone, Sand Anemone, Red Base Anemone, or the Long Tentacle Red Base Anemone. They can be brown, orange, red, grey or purple in color. They usually hide in the rubble and sand with only their tentacles showing. They have a large disc that can grow up to 20” in diameter and their tentacles are spread further apart then other anemones. The Long Tentacle Anemone should be kept in a 50 gallon tank or larger that has at least 4 inches of sand or substrate to bury in. They form a symbiotic relationship with a variety of Clown Fish and will acclimate better with a clown fish in the tank. The Long Tentacle Anemone is aggressive and should be kept away from corals because their long tentacles can sting and kill corals. When handling this anemone it is suggested you wear gloves to protect yourself from getting stung. They mainly get their nutrition through photosynthesis but once acclimated to the tank they will feed on Mysis shrimp, zooplankton, phytoplankton, worms, shrimp and other meaty marine food.
