The Purple Tang is also known as the Yellowtail Sailfin Tang, and the Yellowtail Surgeonfish. It is one of the most popular Tangs because of is beautiful color.
It has a bright blue to purple body with a yellow tail. They should be kept in an under stocked100 gallon tank or larger with lots of swimming space, good lighting, high water flow and hiding spots. They can be kept in a reef or fish only tank but they are very aggressive and should not be kept with other Tangs or fish with similar body types. They are herbivores and will mainly eat algae, which will help keep your tank clean. You can also feed them dried seaweed, Mysis shrimp, and marine algae and they will feed on any other food you add to the tank.
