The Zebra Lionfish is also known as the Dwarf Lionfish or Dwarf Zebra Lionfish. It is covered with brown, red, black and white vertical stripes all over its body. The pectoral fins look like a fan and the dorsal fins are tall and look like feathers. Most important thing you need to know about this fish is that it is VENOMOUS! Never touch a lionfish and always make sure you use a net or scoop to handle them. They wont attack you but their large fins can easily sting you. If you do get stung just rinse the affected area with really hot water. The Zebra Lionfish should be kept in a 30 gallon tank or larger with plenty of open space and many places to hide in. They will eat almost any fish that can fit in their mouth. They wont nip at fish or eat fish that they can’t swallow. They are reef safe but will eat smaller shrimp in your tank. When you first put the Zebra Lionfish in your tank you can get it to eat by adding in smaller fish or feeder shrimp. You can eventually start adding in frozen Mysis shrimp and slowly wean the Lionfish off the live fish or feeder shrimp. This can take a few days up to a few weeks depending on the fish. The Zebra Lionfish should only be fed twice a week to keep it from growing to fast. The bigger the lionfish the more of a threat it is to any other fish in your tank.
