The Snapperfish family consists of about 100 species. They are a popular fish to eat but can also be seen in your aquarium. They are peaceful fish but can become semi aggressive as they get older, don’t have enough space in your tank, or are agitated by small fish that nip at their fins. Most are not reef compatible and can be seen eating crustaceans in the tank.
They are large fish and require a larger tank around 125 gallons or larger depending on the species. They prefer tanks with plenty of space, rocks to hide behind and ample lighting.
Snappers are carnivores and will eat a varied diet that consists of squid, shrimp, krill, fish, and other meaty marine food.
