Feather Dusters are a great addition to any tank. They are reef compatible and very peaceful creatures. They are the crowns of the worm residing in a tube with radioles (feathers) extending from the crown. They attach themselves to coral and rocks, or bury themselves in the sand. Feather Dusters/Worms should not be kept with aggressive fish such as Angels or Butterflyfish. When scared or disturbed it will quickly retract its radiole into its crown. When severely stressed it will discard its feathers completely and eventually grow new ones. They require a tank with medium to high water flow and can be fish only or a reef tank. You aquarium should be well established because they prefer excellent water conditions with plenty of plankton floating around. High levels of Nitrate and Copper will be harmful to the Feather Duster. Besides eating the zooplankton and phytoplankton floating in your water you can also add marine snow, calcium and liquid organic food as a dietary supplement.
