The Bird Wrasse is named for its beak like snout. This elongated beak allows it to catch long skinny prey and hold onto it while it breaks it down to smaller pieces.
The male and female are distinguished by their colors. The female is brownish black and the male has variations of green and is usually called the Green Bird wrasse.
This fish should be kept in a 125 gallon tank or larger with lots of live rock. They are a hardy fish and adapt well to any aquarium. They can become aggressive towards other fish in the tank especially smaller fish and invertebrates. This wrasse is different from other wrasses because they prefer to lie on top of the sand rather than bury in the sand. The Bird Wrasse is considered a jumper so be sure your aquarium has a tight fit lid. Their diet should consist of Mysis and brine shrimp, and other frozen meaty food.
