One of the wildest colorations of all the anthias is the Pink Square Spot Anthias. They are also known as the Squareback Anthias, Mirror Anthias, or Purple Blotch Basslet. The males are pink with a lavender belly and the females are yellow with a lavender belly. They have a bright red/orange square in the center of their body that is used to scare off predators in the wild. A single Square Spot Anthias can be added to a 25 gallon tank or larger but a small school with only one male should be kept in a 100 gallon tank or larger with plenty of live rock, places to hid from the light in your tank and plenty of open space for swimming because they are very active fish. They usually stick around the middle of the tank but like to dart off and hide behind rocks. They can be kept in a reef or fish only tank with other peaceful fish. They should be fed 2-3 times a day with a variety of food including mysis or brine shrimp, flake food, and they will eat copepods, amphipods and algae growing in your tank.
