The Hogfish is generally a bright looking fish with an elongated snout shaped like a pigs giving the fish its unusual name. Lots of aquarium owners love the Hogfish for it ability to devour parasites, clean the tank and other tank mates. Juvenile Hogfish can be kept in a reef tank but as they get older that reef will become their buffet and they will destroy it. Most of the species are docile but depending on how they acclimate and how big they get they could become aggressive towards smaller fish. Some of them tend to be small but some can grow upwards of 10” and need a large tank so depending on which Hogfish you choose you will need a tank ranging from 20 gallons to 100 gallons.
They are carnivores and will eat live fish, shrimp, squid, krill, snails and other meaty foods.
